悪性腫瘍

一般に癌（がん、英Cancer、独Krebs）、悪性新生物（あくせいしんせいぶつ、英Malignant neoplasm）とも呼ばれる。

※「がん」という語はほぼ「悪性腫瘍」と同義として一般的に用いられ、本稿もそれに習い「悪性腫瘍」と「がん」とを明確に区別する必要が無い箇所は、同一語として用いている。

胃癌

胃癌（いがん、Stomach cancer、Gastric cancer）は胃に生じる癌腫である。広義の「胃がん」は胃粘膜上皮から発生した癌腫（狭義の胃癌）と、上皮以外の組織から発生したがん（胃平滑筋肉腫・GIST・胃悪性リンパ腫など）の両方を含むが、この項では前者につき述べる。それ以外のがんについては各々の項目を参照されたい。

治療の副作用

癌細胞だけを除去したり破壊したりするだけに留める事は困難である。健全な細胞あるいは組織も障害を受けるため、治療には好ましくない副作用が発生する。

癌治療の副作用は患者毎に異なり、今回の治療とそれ以降に受ける治療とでも異なる。医者は副作用が最小限になるように治療方針を組み立て、発生する問題に対処することができる。それゆえ、医者が治療中あるいは治療後に発生する問題を把握できるようにすることが重要である。

乳癌

乳癌（にゅうがん, 英Breast cancer）とは乳房組織に発生する癌腫である。世界中でよく見られる癌で、西側諸国では女性のおよそ10%が一生涯の間に乳癌罹患する機会を有する。それゆえ、早期発見と効果的な治療法を達成すべく膨大な労力が費やされている。また乳癌女性患者のおよそ20%がこの疾患で死亡する。

Cancer (medical term: malignant neoplasm) is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not. The branch of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer is oncology.

A medical test is a kind of medical procedure performed to detect, diagnose, or evaluate disease, disease processes, susceptibility, and determine a course of treatment.

Magnetic resonance imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI), is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in radiology to visualize the structure and function of the body. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane. MRI provides much greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body than computed tomography (CT) does, making it especially useful in neurological (brain), musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological (cancer) imaging. Unlike CT, it uses no ionizing radiation, but uses a powerful magnetic field to align the nuclear magnetization of (usually) hydrogen atoms in water in the body. Radiofrequency fields are used to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization, causing the hydrogen nuclei to produce a rotating magnetic field detectable by the scanner. This signal can be manipulated by additional magnetic fields to build up enough information to construct an image of the body.
